Description: We are recruiting a highly motivated individual for a research assistant position in a neuroscience laboratory. The lab utilizes rodent preparations to model pathogenic mechanisms and treatment targets for mental illness on molecular cellular and systems levels. The lab's focus is on understanding how stressful and enriching experiences are encoded by the brain on molecular, cellular, circuit, and behavioral levels. Genetic manipulations including viral based gene transfer, circuit tracing and targeting, opto- and pharmacogenetics, brain clearing, behavioral, and microscopic techniques are commonly used.

Duties: Responsibilities include planning and carrying out experiments, stereotaxic surgery and monitoring during recovery, mouse husbandry (organization of the rodent colony, genotyping, and breeding rodents for behavioral experiments; collecting tissue samples for experimental analysis), handling of research rodents, genetic breeding strategies, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, behavioral analysis, reading and preparing written summaries of scientific literature, and preparing reports and presenting data. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational and communication skills. All data obtained must be recorded in detail, including a record of animal husbandry and stocks or other reagents generated. The ideal candidate will also have experience in preparing and presenting reports of data.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or neuroscience-related field preferred (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
Training & Experience: At least 1 year of experience with rodent experiments, specifically in the areas of rodent stereotaxic surgery, colony maintenance, genotyping, and behavioral experiments is preferred. Must show ability to work independently following initial instruction.
