The Substance Dependence Research Group at New York State Psychiatric Institute/Columbia University Department of Psychiatry has an opening for a study coordinator who will join a team of researchers conducting a longitudinal study designed to assess DSM-5 alcohol, drug, and psychiatric disorders among patients in substance abuse treatment.

The study coordinator will be responsible for recruiting, consenting, scheduling, and interviewing patients at a substance abuse treatment clinic on Long Island or elsewhere.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Interacting with clinic and research staff to maintain recruitment quotas and retain participants in the study.
Explaining the study to patients and obtaining informed consent
Determining patient eligibility using clinical assessments.
Assisting participants in administration of a computerized self-administered questionnaire.
Scheduling and completing baseline and follow up interviews at the clinic or in other mutually convenient locations on Long Island.
Collecting saliva samples to test for substance use.
Enrolling participants in a daily phone survey and making calls to remind participants to complete the survey as needed.
Contacting participants to confirm study appointments.
Tracking and reporting progress to the study team.


Minimum Qualifications:

A master's degree in psychology, social work, or a related field.
Two or more years of experience in mental health or clinical research.
Basic computer skills. 
Ability and willingness to travel to participants' homes and other mutually convenient locations on Long Island or elsewhere to complete study visits. 


Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to retain participants in longitudinal research studies. 
Previous experience administering structured interviews.
Meticulous in carrying out research protocols and be able to maintain a high level of accuracy with minimal supervision.
Careful, diligent work habits and ability to maintain focused attention.
Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and ability to interact with staff at all levels.
Ability to easily build and maintain rapport with study participants and clinic staff.
