The Division on Substance Use Disorders, Department of Psychiatry, New York State Psychiatric Institute is seeking a Master's level applicant for a Research Project Manager II position. This is a full-time position. This position is part of the Training and Practice Implementation Institute, which is a NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) funded initiative that provides training and intensive technical assistance (implementation support) to selected OASAS-licensed 822 (Opioid and Outpatient Treatment) programs to build towards effective and sustained integration of the evidence-based practice of Motivational Interviewing.


1) Work closely with the PD, Senior Program Managers, and other program managers to develop/adapt and deliver Motivational Interviewing (MI) Training and Technical Assistance (T/TA) interventions for TPII program participants.
2) Establish partnerships and recruit organizations to participate in TPII.
3) Facilitate training workshops focused on Motivational Interviewing to participating TPII organizations and their staff
4) Maintain responsibility for a dedicated TPII Program caseload; including ongoing implementation and oversight of all required TPII training and technical assistance activities to ensure enrolled programs meet project expectations.
5) Provide technical assistance to participating TPII organizations via various mediums included but not limited to: in-person meetings, telephone conferences, video conferences, webinars, ECHO virtual clinics, etc.
6) Assess MI capacity of participating program staff using the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity (MITI) coding system and provide expert coaching feedback designed to improve fidelity to MI practices.
7) Coordinate work with administrative support staff to ensure timely completion of TPII deliverables.
8) Assist Project Director and Senior Program Managers with other project tasks as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidate must have a Master's Degree in a Social/Behavioral Science or health-related discipline;
Minimum of 1 year experience designing and delivering training and technical assistance interventions to health professionals;
Minimum of 1 year in-service experience involving the utilization of motivational interviewing skills in clinical practice;
Ability to plan and carry out project activities that ensure deadline completion; and
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred candidates will be an MSW, LMSW, LCSW and/or Certified Addition Counselor; Experience as a provider of mental health, substance use or related health services preferred; In-depth knowledge of motivational interviewing including demonstrated experience applying MI skills and techniques in the context of MI capacity building efforts that involve coaching and fidelity assessment is strongly preferred; Familiarity with distance learning platforms (e.g., Citrix, Webex, Zoom) is also highly preferred.
