We are seeking a motivated candidate to join our interdisciplinary group at NYSPI/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Our mission is to elucidate the cellular mechanisms underlying mind-body processes, with a focus on mitochondria. The lab's translational research program involves a combination of laboratory and clinical studies. The successful applicant will be expected to work collaboratively with other lab Members and collaborators on research projects aiming to understand the role of mitochondria in the stress-disease cascade. She/he will work on a new NIH-funded study evaluating mitochondrial and immune adaptations to psychological stress during pregnancy, and contribute to determining whether this represents a potential pathway for preterm birth risk. Tasks will involve collecting and processing biological samples (blood and saliva), learning to perform mitochondrial assays, managing data, and using statistical analyses to address scientific hypotheses.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Biospecimens processing and analysis: 60%
Data collection and database management: 30%
Data analysis and manuscript preparation for publication: 10%

Minimum Qualifications:

¬ Completed undergraduate/graduate training biology, psychology, or related field of study
¬ Prior molecular biology laboratory experience
¬ Strong organizational skills, independence, and the ability to work well with others in a research team

Preferred Qualifications:

¬ Experience with data handling and analysis would be an asset
¬ Experience in a mitochondrial research environment would also be an asset
