The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Research Nurse position who will contribute to research studies in Substance Use Disorders.

Nursing responsibilities for inpatient and outpatient research studies in individuals with SUD. Under the supervision of a research psychologist and physician, the Nurse will administer research protocols to assure compliance with IRB-approved study designs. The Nurse is active in research at every stage and functions with a large degree of autonomy. S/he coordinates schedules of volunteers with those of research (physicians, psychologists, research assistants) and clinical personnel, oversees the completion of research questionnaires, establishes and maintains rapport with volunteers, and monitors their compliance with all aspects of the studies. The nurse maintains source documents, case report forms, and data books in compliance with FDA regulations, codes and enters data, and performs preliminary data analysis. In addition, the nurse provides care to opioid-dependent patients during detoxification (e.g., taking vital signs and administering medications to alleviate uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms) and provides nursing care both during and after dose administration. The nurse also places and removes intravenous lines, draws blood, administers parenteral naloxone to opioid-dependent individuals, administers oral medications, performs electrocardiograms, monitors vital signs, and provides psychosocial support to participants. The Nurse is expected to attend weekly team meetings and become ACLS certified if s/he isn't already. Hours are generally 9am-5pm M-F, but some early morning, evening, and weekend work may be required.

Minimum Qualifications: LPN certification and research experience. Organizational skills, attention to detail, good judgment, and the ability to work without continuous supervision are critical components of this position. Familiarity/proficiency with Excel, Word and PowerPoint are essential. Psychiatric and physical assessment skills necessary for monitoring safety of research participants.

Preferred Qualifications: Individuals with prior human laboratory, clinical research and/or psychiatric research experience will be given preference.

In accordance with NYS Office of Mental Health regulations, RFMH employees at NYSPI are required to be vaccinated with at least one dose of vaccine against COVID-19 by Monday, November 1st, 2021, and to be fully vaccinated by December 10, 2021.
