The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc., is seeking a part-time qualified candidate for Evening Research MRI Operator in the MRI Research Unit at NYSPI to operate the console of a research-dedicated MRI scanner.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Run console software & hardware for acquiring scan data & operate research-dedicated MRI scanner
  • Spot check images and scans for quality assurance
  • Position research subjects in the scanner & maintain safe environment / uphold MRI Safety
  • Troubleshoot and assist with experiment hardware and equipment, including input devices, eye-tracker and physiological collection peripherals
  • Maintain a flexible schedule that will consist primarily of evenings (between 4pm-8pm), and very occasional late evenings (6pm-10pm)

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or higher. Academic focus on physical sciences (physics, engineering) or quantitative sciences (computer science, applied mathematics) are advantageous but not essential. All candidates with strong computer/technical skills and a demonstrated Strong interpersonal and communication skills. This position will require continuous interaction with investigators, other staff members and research subjects. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience is a plus but not mandatory. We will train the successful candidate to perform all tasks, General interest in science, and especially MRI, Familiarity with Linux or Unix operating system user environments. No programming will be necessary, but ability to operate in command line mode from a terminal window and general familiarity with and ability to navigate fluently within the Unix file system structure are essential.

In accordance with NYS Office of Mental Health regulations, RFMH employees at NYSPI are required to be vaccinated with at least one dose of vaccine against COVID-19 by Monday, November 1st, 2021, and to be fully vaccinated by December 10, 2021.
