The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc., is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time Research Technician position at the Substance Dependence Research Group at New York State Psychiatric Institute/Columbia University Department of Psychiatry. The successful candidate will join a team of researchers conducting epidemiologic and clinical research.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Design, conduct and interpret analyses of large-scale survey and clinical datasets. This work requires statistical knowledge and ability, and knowledge of the substance abuse and psychiatric literatures.

  • Apply epidemiologic principles in refining research questions prior to and during analytic phases.
  • Write manuscripts reporting results of such analyses and submit to scientific journals
  • Work with team of data experts to create datasets from large-scale electronic medical record (EMR) databases, manage and clean data as needed
  • Analyze created datasets to examine public health aspects of drug, alcohol, and psychiatric problems
  • Conduct literature searches and reviews.
  • Train, supervise, coordinate research assistants and other junior scientists on literature searches, data cleaning & management, analyses. Problem-solve as needed, supervised by Principal Investigators.
  • Assist with and coordinate preparation of presentations, reports, and proposals

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in epidemiology, biostatistics, psychology, or sociology.
  • 2 years of experience publishing empirical publications and/or commentaries

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate or equivalent experience in epidemiology, biostatistics, psychology or sociology, or related field, or 4+ years of experience publishing empirical publications and/or commentaries
  • 2 years of experience in publishing on these areas
  • 2 years of experience with Mplus and/or R
  • 2 years of experience teaching and/or training, supervising, and coordinating the work of research assistants and other junior scientists in the areas outlined above.
  • 2 years of experience working with data from large-scale datasets
