The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time position of Research Study Physician in the laboratory of Dr. Elias Dakwar.  This position will assist in the day-to-day clinical operations of Dr. Dakwar's studies in the SURC (Substance Use Research Center) and at STARS (Substance Treatment and Research Service), both at the New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI).

The clinical research laboratory of Dr. Elias Dakwar is seeking a motivated, skilled, and intellectually engaged physician to assist with a wide array of research procedures, such as interviewing participants to assess for medical and psychiatric disorders, conducting physical exams, evaluating clinical status within the context of medication trials, delivering mindfulness-based interventions (e.g., guiding meditation), inserting and removing intravenous catheters, monitoring ketamine infusions, and providing support to participants undergoing inpatient detoxification. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the diagnosis and management of psychiatric and substance use disorders, but this experience is not required, particularly if the candidate demonstrates a strong capacity for growing in these clinical areas. Preference will also be given to candidates with experience or interest in mindfulness-based interventions, as well as in the therapeutic applications of mind-altering substances. The candidate will be responsible for caring for participants, providing appropriate documentation, assisting with correspondence with the IRB and the NIH, and supervising research assistants and nursing staff.

Medical degree required from an accredited institution.  B.L.S. certification required.  Must possess superb organizational skills, attention to detail, good judgment and the ability to work without continuous supervision.  Familiarity/proficiency with Excel, Word and PowerPoint are essential.

Previous experience working in a research setting strongly preferred.  A.C.L.S. certification preferred.
